Emergency Lighting

Emergency Lighting is essential in the event of a power failure. If this happens, your obligation is to ensure any persons within your building are evacuated safely and quickly. The easiest way to achieve this is to ensure that the escape routes and emergency exits are illuminated.

VOCA Fire Protection are experts in the design, installation, maintenance and commission of emergency lighting systems for projects large and small. Please contact us for a no-obligation quote to see how we can provide your building with a necessary emergency lighting installation.

Emergency light fittings are self-contained units that are wired into the mains, but have the benefit of a battery as a backup power source that is continuously charged which enables them to remain illuminated should the mains power fail. These fittings can tell when the power has failed and will immediately switch to the backup battery as their power source. The batteries themselves can either be contained within the body of the individual light or can be accessed by the light fittings via an independent wired circuit. The batteries are kept charged via the mains as they need to power the emergency light fittings for a minimum of 3 hours in the event of a power failure, so to conserve power in this instance, the light output from the fitting is reduced, more often than not, to 10% of the normal light output.

Remain illuminated and operate as a normal light fitting, when the power fails the maintained emergency fitting will continue to operate at a lower light level for a minimum of 3 hours.

Batteries are continuously charged via the mains, however, should the power fail, the emergency light fittings switch on using their battery supply to illuminate the surrounding area.

Emergency lighting is available in both maintained and non-maintained systems as a method of illuminating the way to an emergency exit for any visitors who are trapped within your premises.
